Mr. Seetharaman and Ms. Vinodhoinin from Mangavaram village in Thiruvallur district were very happy when they were blessed with a baby boy, Sastivell, on 10.09.2025. But their happiness soon turned into worry when Sastivell developed severe breathing difficulties at just two months old.
He was admitted to a Government Hospital, where doctors identified a congenital heart disease during evaluation. The child was started on regular medical treatment and closely monitored. Hoping for a better solution, the family later attended a free cardiac screening camp conducted by MIOT Hospitals, where Sastivell was referred for further evaluation.
After detailed investigations, the medical team diagnosed him with a Large Perimembranous VSD along with a moderate indirect Gerbode defect. Initially, he was managed with medications and regular follow-ups. Unfortunately, within a short span of time, Sastivell had to be hospitalized twice due to repeated respiratory infections and poor weight gain. Considering his fragile health condition, doctors strongly recommended early cardiac surgery involving VSD closure and tricuspid valve repair.
The estimated cost of the surgery was Rs. 3,25,000/-, an amount far beyond the reach of the family. Mr. Seetharaman, a bike mechanic earning around Rs. 10,000 to 15,000 per month, struggled to support his household and manage shop rent with his unstable income. Arranging such a large amount for his son’s life-saving treatment seemed impossible.
Recognizing the child’s critical condition and the family’s difficult socio-economic circumstances, CHIME stepped forward and mobilized support from generous philanthropists to help fund the treatment.
With timely intervention and compassionate support, Sastivell was admitted for surgery on 27.04.2026 and successfully underwent the procedure on 28.04.2026. Following careful post-operative monitoring and recovery, he was discharged from the hospital on 20.05.2026.
Today, baby Sastivell is recovering well, responding positively to medications, and slowly regaining strength. He is scheduled for his next medical review after two months. Sastivell’s journey stands as a reminder that every child deserves a chance at a healthy life, and with the support of caring hearts, miracles can truly happen.
