Vijay Kumar, an 8-year-old boy from the Chennai district, was leading a normal life as a Class III student in a government school when an unexpected challenge struck him. He began experiencing severe coughing and difficulty in breathing. His parents, Mr. Chellamuthu and Mrs. Alamelu, initially thought it was a simple illness, but the symptoms soon worsened, prompting them to consult various hospitals in search of a diagnosis.
They were later referred to MIOT Hospitals, where the medical team diagnosed him with a complete AV septal defect, obstructed supracardiac TAPVC, and severe AV valve regurgitation. So, he was advised to undergo TAPVC repair + AV valve repair + PA banding procedure, which cost Rs. 5,00,000/-.
Mr. Chellamuthu, the child’s father, works as a Nadi astrologer, which is an unstable job, and earns Rs. 200/- and takes care of his family. Unfortunately, this is not the first time his family has faced such a tragic situation. He has already lost one child to a cardiac disease. Now, he is fighting desperately to save his son and ensure he has a chance to live a healthy life.
In addition to his son’s condition, he has the responsibility of raising three young daughters. The youngest of them is also battling a cardiac issue, which adds further strain to his already limited resources. With the weight of raising his children and managing daily expenses, it was impossible for him to afford the high costs of Vijay Kumar’s surgery.
With the support of generous individuals and charity organizations, the treatment cost was arranged. Vijay Kumar was able to undergo surgery on February 28, 2025. The surgery was a success, and his health began to improve.
