Sameera – A Pediatric Heart Success Story
Sameera, a bright 7-year-old girl from Chennai, was identified with a serious heart condition at the age of four during a routine school health check-up. She was referred to Stanley Medical College Hospital, where further medical evaluation revealed a large Ostium Secundum Atrial Septal Defect (OS ASD) – a hole between the upper chambers of the heart. Since then, Sameera had been under regular medical care and monitoring.
Later, Sameera was referred to a free cardiac camp organized by MIOT Hospitals at Stanley Medical College Hospital. Following detailed evaluation, the doctors recommended an elective ASD device closure procedure to treat her condition and prevent further complications.
The estimated cost of the procedure was ₹2,00,000, an amount that was far beyond her family’s financial means.
Sameera’s father, Mr. Santakumar, works as an electrician and earns approximately ₹800 per day. His work is irregular, and he is the sole earning member of the family. With his limited and unstable income, meeting the family’s daily household needs itself is a constant challenge. Arranging ₹2,00,000 for his daughter’s heart procedure was simply beyond his reach.
Recognizing the family’s difficult financial situation, CHIME stepped in and arranged financial assistance for Sameera’s treatment on 01.09.2026, ensuring that her medical care was not delayed because of financial constraints.
With the support provided, Sameera successfully underwent the ASD device closure procedure on 01.09.2026. She responded well to the treatment and was discharged from the hospital on 03.09.2026.
Sameera has now returned home with a new hope for a healthier future. She has been advised to continue her prescribed medications and return for a medical review after one month.
For Sameera and her family, this treatment was more than a medical procedure – it was an opportunity for a healthier childhood and a brighter future. Today, Sameera is on the road to recovery, with her family looking forward to seeing her grow, learn, and live life to the fullest.
