Ajay, a lively 5-year-old boy from Cuddalore district, faced a daunting health challenge from a young age. At just 3 years old, he was diagnosed with a heart condition—a hole in his heart that doctors initially hoped would close naturally as he grew older. Over the years, annual echocardiograms tracked the progression of the condition, with the hole in his heart increasing in size.
During a routine polio drop camp in the village, a vigilant nurse noticed Ajay’s condition and urged his parents to seek specialized care at Cuddalore Government Hospital. Later he was advised to attend a cardiac screening camp that was conducted by the medical team of MIOT Hospitals.
He was taken to MIOT Hospitals for further treatment, where he was diagnosed as having large OS ASD and additional small fenestration. So he was advised to undergo an elective closure procedure, which cost Rs. 250,000/- including surgery, ICU & hospital stay, post-op investigations, and medications.
Ajay’s father, Mr. Jaya Kumar, who works tirelessly as a hotel master with limited earnings, this amount was beyond his capacity to afford. He was deeply concerned about his son’s health but felt helpless as he was unable to gather the funds needed for the surgery.
In their time of despair, we understood the urgency of the situation; with the support from well-wishers, we were able to raise the necessary funds, enabling the surgery to move forward.
On 19.11.2024, Ajay underwent the elective closure surgery, and it was a complete success. The recovery process was smooth, and with each passing day, Ajay regained his strength, returning to his playful and energetic self.
